The options were endless – but I wish I could say the same about the budget – which was a very critical part in deciding where to go. A few friends (who wanted to remain behind the lens) and I decided to take a short break to a beach destination to regroup and rejuvenate. As a savvy shopper, I employed the same thought process about where to go given the time frame we had – somewhere close, sunny, offered endless amounts of relaxation and fun. We put our heads together and came up with a short list of places to go, and after deliberating flight times, and maximum days of vacation, Hawaii was the pick – Maui to be specific.
Having decided on the destination, we decided that leaving on a Thursday afternoon flight (so we didn’t miss too much work) would be best. Leaving Vancouver wasn’t the hard part – but sitting on the plane until we got there proved to be a restless period for some more than others. I personally tend to sleep before the plane even leaves the tarmac so for me, I was good to go as soon as I was in my seat!
Upon arriving at the airport in Maui – which has to be the smallest airport I have ever been to – we retrieved our luggage and made our way (via shuttle) to the rental car office, where we picked up our Chevrolet Camaro. It was slick and fun to drive, and every bit the Bumblebee I thought it would be. *Geek Alert* Yes – Transformers made me fall in love with this car, so I was very happy to drive it while we were on vacation.

What looked like a great ad for Chevrolet was just I being a poser – BUT … I feel that I did the car justice! Aesthetically, the car is sexy but my thoughts on the overall experience are below.
- Gas Consumption – Holy!
- Drive – Easy and Fairly Smooth
- Comfort – Nice (out of 5 – 4)
We checked into our home for the 5 days – 4 nights we were there and it’s not something special to write home about. It was a clean and comfortable place to sleep, shower and get ready for the days ahead because we spent most of our days outside in the sun. The rental was in Kihei, and when we looked out from the balcony, all we saw was the ocean. After settling in, and as I stood on the balcony and looked out, I understood why people escaped to Maui. It’s a haven of serenity. A place to disconnect and reconnect with the soul.
